The 2000 Logo briefly lived as an animated logo. In the original animation, the arrow grew from left to right (a-to-z, get it?), but came across visually as, erm... well it looked rather phallic - not exactly the effect they were after. Style 2 (below) grows from the center out, less phallic, but still only lived briefly.

Just a note about the "new" logo, at the top.
The so called new logo is just a slight variation on the original logo, which is here - http://images.amazon.com/images/G/01/graphics6/amazon-logo.gif

Its an amazin concept...the arrow creates a smile too...pusing the z a bit..from at z and ur done!!! tricky..but good
