Today Is: 5/5/5
Today is 05/05/05 (in both Europe and the US).
Today is
National Prayer Day, a peculiarly American event - a congressionally created and sanctioned day of Judeo-Christian prayer to the one approved God. See their
Official Policy Statement on Participation of "Non-Judeo-Christian" groups. Separation of Church and State, indeed.
Today is (reactively) the
National Day of Reason. A Non-governmentally-recognized secular observance, organized because "Nontheistic Americans, along with many traditionally religious allies, view such government-sanctioned sectarianism as unduly exclusionary."
Today is also
Cinco de Mayo, a sales tool for Corona Beer and interestingly a bigger deal in the US than it is in Mexico - in part because it celebrates a pyrrhic victory in a War that Mexico later lost.
Today is
Ascencion Day, commemorating the physical levitation of Zombie Jesus into the sky. He was, apparently "taken up" into a cloud, according to Acts.
Today is also
Space Day, promoting other types of bodily ascent into the Heavens.
Today is also
Yom Hashoah, a day set aside by the Jewish Community to memorialize the Holocaust.
Finally, today is also
Children's Day in Japan, a day set aside to celebrate the healthy growth and happiness of children. Now that, I can buy into whole-heartedly.
The 5th day of the 5th month of 2005 is a much-claimed day, may yours be a good one.
