Amazon Light Updated
It's one of those big updates that took forever, was difficult to undertake, and doesn't readily appear to have made a huge difference, but all the difference is under the covers and/or subtle. Here's what has been updated in
Amazon Light (the first version, now nearly 4 years old).
-
95% Amazon-only. I filter out as many 3rd party sellers as is humanly possible. That way you know the item comes from Amazon (and not Sammy's Discount Store).
-
Super-Saver Shipping and Amazon Prime. Since all items are Amazon, almost all are eligible for Amazon's Super-Saver Shipping and Amazon Prime programs. Yay!
-
Availability. Don't you hate getting 20 results for a search on Amazon, but only 2 are actually available? Me too. Now with Amazon Light,
only available items are listed (yay! again)
-
HTML and CSS Standards - HTML 4.01 Strict compliance, baby. Goodbye to my godawful buggy older code. That means it's tighter, lighter-weight, easier on browsers, and 'just done the right way' finally.
-
ECS 4 vs. AWS 3. I've moved the whole site over to Amazon's latest and greatest Webservices offering, ECS 4.0. This gives me access to tons of new features and more control over the whole backend.
- A couple of small UI tweaks (bigger text, more white space), and elimination of a couple of never-used features.
The main reason for doing this was as a way to say thanks to those of you who have been using Amazon Light on a semi-regular basis. What better way than to make the experience even lighter?
Also, if you have any comments, gripes or angry missives, feel free to post them here or send me email. Thanks!
