Hulk: A Massive Green Wave of Merchandise


Last week, I was walking through my local grocery store, and out of the corner of my eye, I saw a box of Hulk Nilla Wafers. I laughed out loud - what product could sound so un-Hulk-like? A small wafer called "'Nilla" that's best when dipped into Milk? Curious about what other marketing/merchandising deals had been put together for the upcoming Hulk Movie (opens June 20, 2003), I found out that there was a virtual green tidal wave of stuff either endorsed by, licensed by, featured by, or associated with Universal Pictures "Hulk" movie. The following list of 180+ products and brands is just what I could find in one day online, and reflects merchandise solely for the new movie (and Hulk franchise), and does not include the past few decades of other Hulk merchandise related to the comic book and TV Show.

I found that Marvel Enterprises, Inc., and Universal Studios Consumer Products Group have lined up over 300 Licensees. Online marketing has already been in high gear, some three weeks before the movie starts, even Yahoo.com will be overtaken by the Hulk on June 16th.

Hold on tight, and get out your Hulk Mastercard, and let's dive into the sea of green products (or you can sit back and wath the Hulk Special on Home Shopping Network at 10pm June 20th):


Destinations and Attire/Accessories

There are a couple of large products, including a themed Rollercoaster at Universal Studios. Of course you can drive there in your Dodge Caravan . Pack a lunch for your new Lunchbox (2,3). And to be sure one is dressed for the occasion, we have Underoos, Underwear, T-Shirts, Socks, Shoes, Wallet, FM Radio watch, or choose from these other watches (2,3,4,5,6,7)

To be sure you're able to rage like the Hulk, there are Boxing Gloves, Hulk Hands, Inflatable Chest, Dress-up Muscles, a Communicator, Mask, (or Mask with voice changer), and for the wee ones, Infant Hulk Costume.


Beverages, Snacks, Food

For breakfast, you likely had Post Hulk Limited Edition Cereal with Marshmallows. Now that it's mid-day, what to drink with your snack of BBQ, Dill Pickle and Ketchup flavored Hulk Potato Chips, well, there's Milk, or BellyWasher Green Smash Vitamin C Fruit Drink, or a Mountain Dew, Code Red or Sierra Mist. If it's a warm day, you can enjoy Popsicles or Hulk Ice Pops. Hope you brought your sweet tooth, since we have Lollipops, Hulk Cotton Candy, Sour Gummies, Chocolate Bars and Snerdles. Or for those Meat-friendly folks on the Atkins diet, you can choose from any one of 45 Pemmican Meat Products, and even get a chance to win a Bowflex Ultimate Home Gym or HULK workout gear sweat outfit.

Hershey's has pulled out the stops for their brands, including Green Chocolate Syrup, Green Twizzlers, Green Jolly Ranchers "Gummies", Bubble Yum Hulk Giant Green Gumballs, Hershey's Kisses, York Peppermint patties, Reese's Miniature (?) Peanut Butter Cups. You can even enter to win a Hershey's Hulked-up Hummer H-1.

Where to buy these fine products? Why, 7-Eleven has teamed up with the Hulk, Mountain Dew and Oscar Mayer to bring us Color-change Slurpee cups, Super Big Gulp cups, 52-ounce X-Treme Gulp mug, Big Eats Deli Colossal Club Sandwich, Big Bite all-beef Oscar-Mayer hot dog, Green Apple Pull n Peel, Hulk Power Pops, Candy Bobble Figure, and Hulk Wrist Slingers Gum.

Jell-O is doing their part by debuting JELL-O HULK OREO Pudding Snacks and Jell-O HULK Instant Green Vanilla Pudding.

Nabisco won't be outdone. They provide us with Hulk Oreos, Nilla Wafers, "Big" Cheese Nips, Ritz Crackers, Ritz Bits, Ritz Bits Sandwiches, and Ritz Bits Peanut Butter Sandwiches.

Con Agra Foods goes a step better with CookoutHeroes.com, a site dedicated to the American Traditions of the Hulk and outdoor cooking. They bring to bat big brands like Manwich, Chef Boyardee, VanCamp's Beanee Weanees, VanCamp's Beans, Hunt's Ketchup, Hunt's BBQ Sauce, Gulden's Mustard, PAM No-Stick Cooking Spray, Armour Hot Dogs, Eckrich Smoked Sausage Links and Franks, Inland Valley Frozen Potatoes, Butterball Fresh Chicken and Whole Roasters, and Banquet (Homestyle Bakes NOT INCLUDED).

Even Slim Jim is in the mix, with a Hulk-sized canister and meat stick -- the longest Slim Jim meat stick on the market.

Of course, the Hulk has been a shill for a long time. My personal favorites from Comic Book days gone by were the Hostess Snacks, like these Golden Oldies for Hostess Cupcakes, and Hostess Fruit Pies.
